Cricket World-Cup Review 2019 – The ‘Best ‘Awards from Cricket Conclusive…

Well what a final!! I am overjoyed England won however I am unsure that I am a fan of the super over. What was wrong with the rule of the team that lost the fewest wickets wins the game in a tied situation? The super over seems over complicated to me.

Anyway well done England! For me they were the best team of the tournament however they were not the best team on the day. Luck was on their side today in so many moments of play both in the field and with the bat.

Listed below are Crickert Conclusive’s ‘Best’ awards from the tournament:-

  1. The best fielding side – New Zealand :-  Vital runouts and catches at critical times during games. Their fielding helped them to defend a number of low totals. Memorable catches from Boult against the West Indies, Guptill against Australia, Neesham against India and Ferguson against England today.  Who can forget the athletic and skilful direct hit of Guptill to runout Dhoni in the world cup semi-final.
  2. The best bowling sideEngland: – They had so many options. The raw pace and movement off the seam from Wood and Archer. The guile and cunning of Woakes. The cunning leg spin of Rashid.
  3.  The best batting side – England:-  They had more players contributing with high scores than any other team.  Roy, Stokes and Root and Bairstow all averaged 50 and above.
  4.  The best team of the tournament: –

Openers –  Rohit Sharma (India) and Jason Roy (England)

Batsman – Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Joe Root (England), Shakib Al Hasan                  (Bangladesh), Ben Stokes (England, all-rounder)

Wicket Keeper – Alex Carey (Australia)

Bowlers – Mitchell Starc (Australia), Joffra Archer (England) Mohammad Amir                     (Pakistan), Jasprit Bumrah (India)

Let me know what you think of the selections. Thank you for reading…
