Today’s Result Round Up from the ICC Women’s World Cup

All 8 teams were in action today. The hosts England played against Sri Lanka at Taunton Somerset. Batting first, Sri Lanka were restricted to 204 for 8 from 50 overs. Opener Nipuni Hansika top scored with a gritty 46. Off-spinner Laura Marsh finished with impressive figures of 4 for 45 from 10 overs.  A third wicket partnership of 148 between wicket keeper Sarah Knight (74 not out) and captain Heather Knight (82) guided England to comfortable 7 wicket win in 30.2 overs.

In low scoring game at Derby, India beat their arch rivals Pakistan by 95 runs. India were kept to a low 169 for 9 from 50 overs with opener Poonam Raut top scoring with 47. Left arm off-spinner Nashra Sandu finished with fantastic figures of 4 for 26 from 10 overs. Pakistan were skittled out for 74 with only captain Sana Mir offering any resistance with a score of 29. Slow left arm bowler Ekta Bisht bowled with guile to finish with figures of 5 for 18 from 10 overs.

At Leicester, South Africa thrashed the West Indies by 10 wickets. Batting first, West Indies were bowled out for a humiliating 48 in 25.2 overs. Chedean Nation was the only batter to reach double figures with 26.  Captain Dane Van Niekerk posted amazing figures of 4 for 0 from 3 overs with 3 maidens and Marizanne Kapp had incredible figures of 4 for 14 from 7 overs. South Africa eased to a total of 51 for no wicket in 6.2 overs.

Australia beat New Zealand by 5 wickets with 14 balls to spare at Bristol. New Zealand scored 219 for 9 from 50 overs with fluid and skillful innings from captain Suzie Bates (51) and Katie Perkins (52) helping them to reach a competitive total. Captain Meg Lanning with 48 and Elyse Perry with 71 were the main stays of the Australian innings as they reached 220 for 5 to register their third straight win in the competition.

India still lead the way in the table with 3 wins from 3 games on a better net run rate than Australia with South Africa third and England 4th. The top 4 from the table qualify for the semi finals.
